Quizzing at home in Accelerated Reader

It’s important for students and their families to realize that cheating on AR quizzes doesn’t really accomplish anything. On the contrary, it stands in the way of providing educators with insight into students’ progress and instructional needs. A great example of our lesson offerings is our reading lessons for beginners, which are built on core concepts of how people best learn to read.

How do you take a quiz on Accelerated Reader?

It teaches students that all books have value, encourages them to select their own books and, through its points system, can get them challenging themselves to read more complex books. At the same time, all books listed in the program are assigned an Accelerated Reader number, which roughly corresponds to grade level. Accelerated Reader is a well-regarded and popular program used in schools across the United States and around the world, and its levelling system can be found in many bookstores and libraries. Luckily, it’s not impossible to create and implement a good reading incentive program for your homeschool. Children using Accelerated Reader choose their own books to read, rather than having one assigned to them. This makes reading a much more enjoyable experience as they can choose books that are interesting to them.

The research base on the benefits of guided independent reading is extensive. Students learn far more vocabulary through independent reading than we’d ever be able to teach them directly.
